What Happened to Madden Door & Sons

In 2022, Madden Door & Sons merged with GDI Garage Doors, a multi-regional company with service locations spanning California and Florida. Madden Door's own Facebook page announced the change directly: the brand transitioned to GDI Garage Doors after 46 years under the Madden name.

GDI itself operates as a subsidiary of a larger parent company, Anytime Garage Door, which runs garage door service operations across multiple states. The Bay Area operations for GDI — including what was formerly the Madden Door service territory in Contra Costa County — are coordinated out of their hub at 3777 Depot Rd, Suite 411, in Hayward.

GDI's own website describes the transition this way: Madden Door & Sons "merged with GDI Garage Doors" to "expand service offerings" across the region. The Madden name continues to be used in GDI's local marketing, but the entity behind it is now a multi-state corporate operation rather than an independent family business.

That's simply what happened. What you make of it — and what it means for who you want working on your home — is your call to make.

What Changes When a Local Company Is Acquired

Corporate acquisitions in the home service industry are common, and they don't automatically mean worse service. But it's worth understanding what typically changes so you can ask the right questions of any contractor you hire:

  • Dispatch and coordination shift to regional hubs. Calls and scheduling may be handled from a centralized location rather than a local office. For GDI's Bay Area territory, that hub is in Hayward.
  • Technicians may cover wider geographic areas. A larger company dispatches from wherever capacity is available, which can mean longer response windows or technicians less familiar with specific local conditions.
